The Hofner Ignition Violin bass comes at the perfect price for players requiring the classic Hofner sound on a budget.

The original Hofner violin bass became a favorite because it was easy to play, super-comfortable and it had a sound like no other bass. Hofner's Ignition Violin Bass features a select Spruce top with flamed Maple back and sides and a pair of Hofner humbucking bass pickups for that "classic" sound.

The Hofner Ignition Violin Bass has a fully hollow body and of course comes with the famous Hofner control panel, wooden bridge and Hofner style tailpiece.

Comments about Hofner Ignition Violin Bass Guitar:

It seems all of you are missing the picture on instruments.
The music comes out of the artist, not the instrument.
For myself I can tell you this, I can make ANY instrument sound good.
So if you like the style of the instrument then buy it. If you do not move on to another one.

Comments about Hofner Ignition Violin Bass Guitar:

The Hofner bass is the easiest and most comfortable bass I own. Light weight so you don't get tired of lugging the guitar around after several hours of playing. I'd recommend it to all bass players.

Sounds very good for the price, has a slim neck making frets much easier to reach.

Comments about Hofner Ignition Violin Bass Guitar:

[...] The bass itself is fantastic, and looks like the expensive real wood version if you stand back with half closed eyes. I can assert that the Icon does not have the solid block built in. The bass is very resonant and easy to play. This is the most I would ever pay for a Beatle bass, as IMO they were never the best design, and fragile to boot. However, I get great Beatley sounds from this bass, and it complements the rest of my bass collection, which includes Sadowsky, Fender, and Music Man.

Comments about Hofner Ignition Violin Bass Guitar:

Look if your a player and especially a beatles fan but cant afford to spend $2000.00 on a german hofner but want the hofner name this is what you want. for years i wanted a hofner and finally got the icon. I use it for beatle songs in my band and its fun to play. yeah i would love to own the cavern model or the 63 model but its very expensive. it plays good and has a great feel to it. Just remember your not going to get that hofner sound sound like the german made ones but you will get a good sound i think. iv been playing twelve years but to the other pros sorry if you differ but not everyone has two grand to just drop. To those out there get an icon!

Comments about Hofner Ignition Violin Bass Guitar:

I waited 1 whole year to get this bass and it was worth it! I went to the local [...] and found they did not have this very bass so I tried out a real german made $1,800 500/1 bass. To tell you the truth, I could not tell the difference between the two when I compared the Icon to the 500/1 about two weeks later.(apart from the troublesome and sensitive nitro-laquer finish on the 500/1 and the parchment tinted pick-guard and control panel on the 500/1) Playability was equal on both, weight was equal on both,(awesomely light!) and even though the pickups were different on both, sound was incredibly dark and woody on both. I play Rock, Blues, some reggae, Jazz, and Pop. The tone of this bass favours Blues, Rock and Jazz, however any style of music can be tackled with this bass. Overall, this is the greatest bargain in the world to me and sure encourage you to buy it! (P.S. Beatles fans will be exceptionally pleased!)

Comments about Hofner Ignition Violin Bass Guitar:

I'm curious where the other guys managed to see one as after serious searching I have only managed to hold one in my hands, in Germany. After comparing it to an original Höfner, there is a difference. The same acoustic resonance isn't there, due to the sustain block inserted under the strings. The original Höfner sounds great even without an amplifier. The finish looked good. In Europe we are told it's made in China not Japan. I am now curious where it's made as I've also heard Korea. Here, delivery has been promised since October 2006, but is still not in the shops, bar the one I've seen. If I wanted a giging Bass, I would go for the original in preference. The original will no doubt hold it's resale value better. But with a price difference of [..]. A gigging base player would probably go for a totally differernt Bass at a price tag of [..]. So basically bottom line is, at [..] a great icon of the 60's.

Comments about Hofner Ignition Violin Bass Guitar:

This Hofner-wannabe is made in Japan with inferior parts to the real deal. Something is to be said for the genuine article (of which I own a couple) versus the imitators. In this case, Hofner endorses this bass as it's licensed by them, but the parts are Japanese in addition to the electronics and set-up. It doesn't feel right; its intonation is slightly off; the overall feel is that of a crappy Korean bass versus a real maple-necked Fender. You know the real deal versus the lower-ranked contenders.

Save your pennies and buy a real Hofner *IF* you are looking for/longing to hear that authentic Hofner "growl." This bass looks great, but it doesn't live up to the Hofner expectations.

A real Hofner for the budget crowd - with good, woody tone. It's very playable once you work on the set-up a bit. Others suggest using flat wound strings - that should mellow it out even more. A good bass for McCartney-like melodic bass playing. I'm happy with it - especially for the price.
