The Artcore Bass Series was designed for players that are used to solid body basses but want the acoustic tone of a hollow body. The 30.3” scale neck increases playing comfort and the acoustic body widens the palette of sounds at your disposal. The Ibanez AGB200 features a single-cutaway body in a Dark Violin Sunburst finish with maple top, back, and sides and an Artcore 3-piece maple/mahogany set-in neck. The bound rosewood fretboard has 22 medium frets and pearl dot inlays. Other appointments include a pair of covered ACHB humbucking pickups, Sure Grip III knobs for precision control of volume and tone, and gold colored hardware including an Artcore Custom 5 milled-brass bridge. An optional Ibanez AGB100C hardshell case is recommended.

Comments about Ibanez AGB205 Hollow Body 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Full disclosure: I don't own this bass. Yet... :) I will very soon. One of my friends owns this bass, though, and he has sworn by it for a while, being his go-to axe for many different opportunities. The B string actually feels pretty good, especially considering this is a short scale bass. It isn't the feel of a 34" or 35" scale, so if you're expecting that, you can go ahead and adjust your expectations now. That said, I think the B feels good. The tone if this bass is thick and luscious, thanks to the lower string tension with the short scale, as well as the retro-style passive pups and tone circuit. It sounds good when playing soul, R&B, blues, jazz, and even some rock stuff too. This bass is not an all-in-one solution, but it isn't a one-trick pony either.

When I played this bass, I didn't experience any neck dive. I expected to, but it just didn't happen. Could have been the strap against my shirt holding it in place, or good design, or both? The string spacing is a slim 15mm, whereas the Ibanez SR 5-strings basses have 16.5mm spacing. The 15mm spacing provides a tight fit, but the bass is still playable and pretty comfortable for fingerstyle. Pick players will probably dig with narrow spacing.

I would change 2 things about this bass, if it were up to me: 32" scale instead of 30" scale, and 16.5mm spacing instead of 15mm. I think that a medium scale would work better for this bass than a short scale. I believe a 34" long scale would modernize the tone too much, and kill the vibe. 32" would keep the cool vibe in the tone while offering a less dramatic shift in scale length, which can be challenging when using multiple basses in one session or one gig. I also think the 16.5mm spacing would be more appropriate for this bass, and would make the bass a little more comfortable to play for fingerstyle guys, like me.

All in all, I think this bass for this price is a great value. This is going to be my next bass guitar purchase. So, yes. I would recommend this bass to any player wanting a short scale bass, old school vibe in their tone, and/or flexibility to play many styles of music with the same unique instrument. Big bang-for-the-buck kind of instrument!

DEFINITELY get the hard case for this bass. This is a semi hollow bass, after all. Don't risk the gig bag.
