The PRS S2 Starla offers serious style and retro personality in a reliable package that make this guitar instantly playable and sure to turn heads.

The PRS S2 Series offers the fit, finish, feel, and attention to detail of PRS craftsmanship in a straightforward design. Standing for “Stevensville 2,” S2 Series instruments are made at the PRS Maryland shop blending new design elements and manufacturing techniques with practiced quality control and workmanship to create reimagined, fresh guitars that reach a more affordable price for players. With a simple, straightforward design these guitars have serious style and expressive tone.

The PRS S2 Starla offers serious style and retro personality in a reliable package that make this guitar instantly playable and sure to turn heads. The S2 Starla features an all-mahogany single-cutaway body that has been beveled and contoured in all the right places to maximize comfort, making the S2 Starla as balanced and comfortable as a guitar you’ve been playing for years. The new asymmetrical, beveled body shape offers a vintage vibe, and the flatness of the top gives the S2 Starla a big, resonant voice.

A guitar should be comfortable and feel familiar from the moment you pick it up, and the neck is paramount to that connection. The PRS S2 Starla features a 25” mahogany neck with scarf-joint construction and the PRS "Pattern Regular" neck shape, which stems back to the PRS “Regular” neck shape found on guitars made in the late 1980’s in the PRS Virginia Avenue Annapolis shop.

The PRS S2 Starla is also equipped with a Tune-o-matic bridge and a Bigsby B50 tailpiece as well as PRS S2 locking tuners, and custom-wound pickups. PRS S2 Series proprietary pickups are built to PRS' exact specifications, including wire and coating materials, winds, and resistance. The PRS S2 Starla features a 3-way blade pickup switch with a master volume and a push/pull tone control. Coil-tap functionality adds versatility by allowing players to split the humbucking pickups into singlecoils, providing a vast array of tones. The jack assembly used on the S2 Series is the same jack as used on the PRS Core line, providing a clean connection point to amplify your sound.

Finish should do three things: most importantly, it should enhance the tone of a guitar. It should also feel good to the player’s touch, and it should look good. The finish used on the PRS S2 Series accomplishes these goals by featuring a polyester basecoat and an acrylic topcoat [reminiscent of the finish system used on PRS Core guitars for twenty years (before the introduction of V12)]. PRS updated the process of this finish requiring a thinner topcoat for optimal tone. This old-but-new finish maintains a hi-gloss, attractive aesthetic.

Whether the PRS S2 Starla is your first PRS or an addition to your arsenal, one thing is certain: each model in the PRS S2 Series is a solid American-made guitar that makes no sacrifice in playability or tone. Includes Gig Bag.

Comments about Paul Reed Smith S2 Starla Electric Guitar (Bird Inlays):

Guitar sounds amazing. Never liked the heaviness of the PRS sound but this is much different than the typical PRS. A throwback to the 60s in sound and look - but with the versatility to do much more. The pickups are good clean, could be crisper, but they still jangle well! The overdriven sound of the pickups is just fantastic creamy dream sustain. The neck is extremely playable, almost effortless. The single cutaway allows for more than adequate reach of all frets. Speaking of, the fretwork is precise, no sharp edges and very smooth feeling.

The only cons to me are the strap buttons, but that is nit picking. They are super secure, just too big. Takes forever to get certain straps on the guitar. Most people love em.

Overall, I'm happy and stoked to play it live. A huge shout out to Ira and Co. in the guitar department. Very accommodating and just pleasant people! Couldn't be happier, thanks fellas.

Comments about Paul Reed Smith S2 Starla Electric Guitar (Bird Inlays):

I play in a band that runs from 50s oldies to new stuff. Previously I played a PRS Custom Shop Starla. My S2 Starla has exceeded my expectations and has become my primary guitar. Quite frankly, I don't know how PRS can hit this level of quality and playability at the S2 Starla price-point. This is an excellent value!
