Comments about Alesis DM Lite Electronic Drum Set:
I can sum up my experience with the DMLite in 1 word: disgusting.
Let's start at step 1, opening the box. Upon opening the box I discover that BOTH of the cymbal stands were broken in half. Not bent - broken, snapped, discontinuous. OK, that's pretty bad, but I'm really good with super glue so I glue those back together, wait 2 days, then assemble the kit.
After finally getting the kit set up (which by the way feels like it's going to collapse any second), I plug in some headphones and start pounding away. Pretty cool I think to myself; it's a bit crampy, but it's not the worst kit in the world. Then I make the worst decision of my life: "let's try the coach feature"....
BAD IDEA! Once I pressed that "pattern" button it NEVER worked again! I can't get to the patterns, I can't get to the kits, I can't get out of coach mode, I can't do ANYTHING except the coach garbage. Which by the way is indeed garbage; it's a bunch of useless exercises and the pads (which have LEDs in them) don't even light up for the exercises. Wait what? So what are the LEDs for? Just to look cool? No, that's LAME!
OK, so now the whole kit is stuck on whatever kit sound it was last on, I can't change that and I can't get to the patterns so I can play along with some stuff. Maybe if I unplug it? Nope. It remembers where it was last at...forever! It has a NVRAM circuit that probably lasts 100 years, I don't know, I won't live that long, but I do know that leaving it unplugged for a whole week did not even clear the memory!
So let's talk about support: there is none. Alesis has NO support for this product, even their forum community does not recognize it as a product. Maybe the troubleshooting guide? Nope, there is none. Factory reset? Nope, there is none, at least none documented, but by my experience I'd be willing to bet they forgot to add one of those too.
So, to expound on my 1 word synopsis of "disgusting", I am disgusted with Alesis. I had been a BIG fan of theirs for many many years, actually since day 1! I am no longer. I will never buy another Alesis product, I will steer everyone I know away from Alesis, and I will be going back to Sam Ash, with a pile of cheap non-working plastic and dumping it on their doorstep. They can give me a refund or not, I don't care, I just want this pile of cheap garbage out of my life, and to never utter the word Alesis ever again. Except for right now: don't buy Alesis!
