inertia   (ĭ-nûr'shə)
n. The tendency of a body to resist acceleration; the tendency of a body at rest to remain at rest or of a body in motion to stay in motion in a straight line unless acted on by an outside force.

In other words, inertia is the physical force that is the enemy of quick and powerful bass drumming.  It is the force that Drum Workshop has been battling through its relentless invention and re-invention of the perfect bass drum pedal.  And DW wins the war against inertia with its most famous and relied-upon model, the DW 5000!  For 2012, DW has unveiled the latest evolution of this classic pedal with the DW5000 Accelerator AD4 !

Among the improvements to the new 5000AD4 pedals are a Tri-Pivot toe clamp that includes 3 self-adjusting rubber-coated pads that securely anchors the pedal to a variety of bass drum counter hoop sizes, a Dual-Spring Rocker that improves the feel and recoil of the pedal and a non-skid rubber pad under the base plate designed for wood, carpet and other playing surfaces.

Other standard features include: the Delta ball-bearing hinge, 101 2-way beater, light-weight aluminum base plate, Accelerator dual-chain and sprocket drive cam and road-worthy all-metal construction and more.  Also, DW 5000 Single Pedals come with an easy-travel, soft Nylon Bag and all DW pedals include a limited 5 year warranty.

DW Founder, Don Lombardi, comments about his flagship product, “Our company was basically founded on the 5000 pedal and we’ve always considered ourselves a pedal company first.  I’m really proud of this new pedal and we’ve only improved upon an already good thing.  We were really careful not to reinvent the wheel.  Drummers are really comfortable with this pedal, so we wanted to maintain the basic feel and keep it as reliable as ever.”

DW Director of Research and Development, Rich Sikra, also comments, “The DW5000 pedal has had incredible longevity in the marketplace and part of the reason for that is that we are always improving its functionality.  There is a world of difference between this latest incarnation of the 5000 and the pedal that became popular in the 70’s and 80’s.  Of course, if you still want the original design, we offer our 6000 Series pedals.  We’re always thinking about how we can make these pedals better.  How can we make a product that can further the art of drumming?  We think this new 5000 is our best yet.”

Let’s Bullet Point the DW5000 AD4 Features!
• The Accelerator™ drive system generates an eccentric motion that creates an indirect relationship between the sprocket and the footboard, increasing the velocity of the pedal by shortening the length of the stroke.  It was developed  to satisfy the desire for increased speed and sensitivity.
• The NEW Tri-Pivot toe clamp includes 3 self-adjusting rubber-coated pads that securely anchor  the pedal to a variety of bass drum hoop sizes.
• The NEW Dual-Spring Rocker that improves the feel and recoil of the pedal.
• The Floating Swivel Spring pivots to eliminate creaking and lateral stress on the spring.
• The DW patented Delta Ball-Bearing Hinge, a state-of-the-art lightweight aluminum design that incorporates ball bearings at both sides and allows no-wiggle stability and extremely smooth pedal action.
• Non-skid rubber pad under the base plate designed to hold the pedal and the attached bass drum from sliding on wood, carpet and other playing surfaces.
• The DW 101 Two-Way Beater includes a felt side and a punchier hard plastic side.
• Adjustable built-in spurs guarantee no-slip stability.
• Aluminum hex shafts, pedal plates and linkages reduce weight, increasing speed and ease of play.
• Road-worthy all-metal construction.

Legendary bass drum pedal

Comments about Drum Workshop Accelerator Ad4 Bass Drum Pedal:

DW knows what they're doing when it comes to drums and drum accessories and this pedal is no different. They've been steadily improving their design and tweaking things here and there to make sure that their pedals are top of the line. The AD4 has great response and control, and the non slip pad is great for any surface whether a concrete floor in a garage or a carpet in the living room. I'd recommend this for any drummer.

A Bass Drum Pedal Benchmark

Comments about Drum Workshop Accelerator Ad4 Bass Drum Pedal:

The Drum Workshop company has been an icon in bass drum pedal innovation for decades. The latest version of the 5000 series is no slouch. It comes with a versatile two sided beater (felt and plastic) to get two distinct tones from the drums, it also comes standard with their delta ball bearings and dual chain drive system for smooth and reliable operation (which used to be an upcharge from the standard model). Although a departure from the designs of the 60's and 70's version this pedal is still lightweight, rugged, built to last, and most importantly built to suit your needs. If you're looking at a great quality single bass drum pedal the DW 5000 series should be on your short list. DW offers many ways to fine tune this pedal to your exacting needs, for example they sell different sized heel plates so you can customize the pedal to your playing style. I could go on forever but the best advice I can give you is to try one out if you can.

Excellent for the price

Comments about Drum Workshop Accelerator Ad4 Bass Drum Pedal:

I've spent a lot of time testing this pedal and I have to say that for the price, it is one of the best out there. The response is incredible, offering a beautifully smooth glide and great power. I personally love pedals that don't require a lot of power to get a lot of power, and this pedal does exactly that. The offset clamp adjustment is definitely a step in the right direction, offering quick adjustment on the fly. The on-board key holder is a nice touch, especially if you lose drum keys like I do. My only gripe with this pedal would have to be the beater. I think that it's too big for my taste, but something that can be easily fixed. All in all, this is a perfect pedal for someone looking for great quality at a great price.

DW makes some of the best pedals right along with Tama. the 5000 AD4 has great response and really allows you to play as fast as you like. The feel of this pedal is what sells me on it; it takes barely any effort to play. There are also rubber grips on the pedal that helps my foot not slide while playing fast.

          DW5000AD4

Comments about Drum Workshop Accelerator Ad4 Bass Drum Pedal:

First off, I am not a drummer. However, I can really tell a difference between the 5000 and the upgraded 5000AD4. The feel and recoil of the pedal is outstanding and the velocity from the board is greater as well with less effort. The clamp is nice with the adjustable pads and it feels like there is less slip due to the rubber padding on the bottom which helps on any playing surface.

          Great Upgrade

Comments about Drum Workshop Accelerator Ad4 Bass Drum Pedal:

The AD4 Pedal by DW has some pretty smart innovations; the tension key on the clamp is a bit more prominent and contoured, the triple pad clamp fits more snugly to the drum, and finally DW put rubber grips on the footplates. This ensures that the pedal is going to stay exactly where you want it to and keeps is cumbersome-free. This is a fundamentally perfect pedal, even more so considering the great price!
