About Peavey

Hartley Peavey says, "In order to be better, by definition you must be different." This unique vision has led to more than 180 patents and innovations in the way we hear and play music. In 1961, working out of his basement, Hartley built the first Peavey amplifier and not long after in 1964 was granted his first patent for amplifier design.

The Peavey Electronics Corporation was established in 1965 with a commitment to offering "quality gear at a fair price." 1n 1968 the company entered the live sound market, offering one of the first affordable sound systems. The "silver stripe" speaker design released in 1969 became a company trademark for the next 25 years.

It wasn't long before the Peavey artist roster began to grow. Such artists as Merle Haggard, Hank Williams Jr., The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Dr. Hook proudly endorsed Peavey products. In 1973 Peavey introduced the tweed-covered Vintage Series of tube guitar amps that remain popular with rock, blues and country guitarists to this day.

1976 saw the introduction of the CS800 power amp which became an industry standard due to its innovative design and legendary reliability. In the 80's, Peavey's line of affordable practice guitar amps proved that a transistor amp could rival the sound of a tube driven model. The eighties also saw new advancements for Peavey in sound reproduction, guitar building and in 1988 Hartley Peavey was inducted into the NAMM Hall Of Fame.

The 1990s saw the release of the 5150 guitar amp, capturing the sound of modern metal. The Peavey TransTube system reproduced the sound of a tube amp with incredible accuracy, converting many players who would never consider a non-tube amplifier.

In 2005, Peavey relaunched the 5150 as the 6505 and attracted a new generation of fans such as Trivium, Machine Head, Bullet For My Valentine and many more. 2008 saw the release of the Peavey ReValver amplifier modeling softwar, the only amp modeling software that models on the circuit level. The Peavey Vypyr modeling guitar amps combine state-of-the-art digital modeling with analog TransTube technology to create amazingly accurate models of popular guitar amps.

In the past few years, Peavey continues it commitment to innovative design with their IPR power amplifiers, that utilize an advanced class D design that allows Peavey engineers to dramatically reduce weight while increasing output power, reliability and thermal efficiency. The Peavey AT-200 Guitar line features Auto-Tune for Guitars by Antares - a digital auto tuning system for guitarists. Their VYPYR VIP series features Variable Instrument Input, the world's first amp that contains Bass guitar, Acoustic guitar and Electric guitar amplifier models.
