In 1929, Kurt Gemeinhardt left Switzerland to design and build flutes in Elkhart, Indiana. After twenty years, Kurt opened his own shop, and as demand grew for his exceptional instruments, so did the factory. Gemeinhardt is now the largest manufacturer of flutes and piccolos for all skill levels. While technology and machinery have advanced which allows a level of precision that was once uncontrollable, Gemeinhardt still prides itself with a human touch that properly fits and tests each instrument for the highest quality sound. Instrument parts are built in America, fitted together in Taiwan, and shipped back to be tested and adjusted once again in Elkart, Indiana. It is this meticulous and long process that guarantees superiority among other woodwinds.
Germeinhardt offers a variety of instruments. The brand is best known for its flutes and piccolos, but they also make clarinets, saxophones and woodwind accessories like flute cases and piccolo cleaning rods. Because these instruments are made with a close attention to detail, Germeinhardt instruments are at the top of their class.
Kurt Germeinhardt was a fourth generation flute maker, and that line of expertise remains to this day. Germeinhardt continues to grow due to the knowledge and understanding that goes into creating every instrument. Whether it is for a professional or a student, Germeinhardt woodwinds are ideal instruments built with superb quality that anyone can enjoy.
