Comments about Blackstar HT-1 1x8" Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I use this as my practice amp in my college dorm. I was drawn to this amp first for its portable size. It's a 1x8 combo. It also sounds great, and gets a wide range of tones with minimal controls. There is no three band eq, but you can still get a lot of tones. The gain on the clean channel will take you from clean to crunch, and the dirty channel gets into metal territory. Not quite modern death metal per se, but very close, and something more like Sabbath can be done easily. The ISF knob, in my opinion, is more valuable than a three band eq. It really does take you from an American sound to a British one. Finally, this amp sounds like a real tube amp at low volumes, because it is! The low wattage lets you get a real tube sound at low volume levels. However, this thing can get loud when cranked. I have yet to put the volume above 9 0'clock when the gain is cranked. This thing also takes pedals great. Overall, a great practice amp.

Comments about Blackstar HT-1 1x8" Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I have played for 8 years in a variety of punk, jazz and alternative rock bands. I use this amp as a practice amp at college. It's small size and low wattage make it portable and easy to use in an apartment or dorm. Blackstar is not kidding, this amp sounds great at low volumes. The clean channel has a wide range of tonal flexibility, via the gain control (which works for both channels) and the ISF knob. The ISF knob really does take you a from an American sound on the left to a British one on the right. The dirty channel can sound anywhere from Marshall sounding crunch to modern high gain metal. I put my pedal board through it and it took the pedals very well. For a portable, low volume amp, with tube driven tone, this is the amp. The only con for me is their is considerable volume increase with the gain knob, but since this isn't made for gigging, it's not a big deal. The only thing I can't speak for is the quality of the build, as I haven't had it very long. It seems sturdy, and my buddy has had the 5 watt version for a few years without problem. Sam Ash also offered a good warranty plan to me.

Comments about Blackstar HT-1 1x8" Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I had the HT-5 combo, loved the sweet tone, the ISF flexibility (it is real, not some gimmick) and the ability to rock out at lower volumes with the pre-gain stage. Still, the HT-5 was a bit loud when I got into the "sweet-spot" in my apartment. Neighbors were like, "Are you that guy who plays guitar?" So I tried the HT-1 with reservations, I did not think it would have enough headroom to give good clean tones. I was wrong. I'm not sure how their push/pull system works, but it does. You can still get great cleans at a nice volume, even a bit louder than you need in an apartment if you turn up the master volume high enough. And oh yes, the blues, crunch, and hard rock sounds are still there thanks to the pre-gain stage. Great tone, great flexibility in a small tube amp if you need great tube tone without a lot of volume. Also, I can not state how good these amps sound when recorded from direct thanks to their speaker-emulation output. And the ISF feature really works, it really does give you American style sparkle or British style fullness. Outstanding amp!
