Comments about Fender American Deluxe Dimension Bass IV HH:
This was my second bass, and my second Fender. My first is a Fender Aerodyne a 4 string passive. I started shopping for an active bass and looked at all the ones in the showroom -- there are some nice ones from Ibanez and Warwick with active electronics and humbuckers. They just didn't blow me away ... until the Dimension came out. Here's my 2 cents:
The build quality and finish are excellent. The cayenne red is even, showing grain and has a nice poly coat. The fret board is a standard medium brown with pearl circles. It weighs about 8 and 1/2 and the balance is good. The cosmetics may get you to look but the sound will hook you. With both humbuckers on, the sound is way out in front. One thing I didn't expect -- a very experienced bass player used it for a gig so I could listen to it and the bass punch stays strong all the way up the fretboard. Unlike my passive Fender Jazz, at the 9th and 12th frets, the Dimension still booms. The 5 way selector gives you neck only, bridge only, both pups, inner coils and outer coils -- if you want a more "woody" sound use the front, more Jaco use the bridge. Treble, midrange and bass controls let you dial in more. Overall, really happy with this one.
