Comments about Wood Violins SV4 Stingray 4 String Electric Violin (Assorted Colors):

I have played the violin for almost 17 years, and the Mark Wood Stingray was my first step into the electric violin world. I was playing in a TSO tribute band, and needed something that would be durable, playable, and affordable. (I was a college student and funds were limited.) I had issues with the instrument from the start. The pickup would cut in and out, and I ended up having to send it into the Mark Wood shop to have it repaired. Sam Ash was extremely helpful, but I have NEVER in my life experienced a more incompetent customer service team than Mark Wood's. They LOST my instrument, and it took them 2 months to replace the pickup. When I finally received my instrument, the black paint was chipped, and the inside of my case was damaged. Sam Ash offered to trade the instrument, however the trade had the same pickup as the original in my instrument, and I had shows to play. I then noticed that the instrument was having a terrible time staying in tune, and realized that the bridge was sliding and causing it to go sharp or flat. There was little to nothing that I could do to fix it. It is not just the Stingray, a friend also has a Mark Wood Viper and the instrument won't stay in tune either. I finally was able to save enough to buy a different electric violin and couldn't be happier. I would NEVER suggest this instrument to anyone. It was not Sam Ash's fault, and I appreciate their help and understanding, but Mark Wood has lost any respect from me.

Comments about Wood Violins SV4 Stingray 4 String Electric Violin (Assorted Colors):

great for 'breaking out' of traditional violin playing! Can be made to sound like an electric guitar (with additional equipment), so it's a Very versatile instrument!! Fans of Trans-Siberian Orchestra or Van Helsing's Curse (bands Mark Wood has played with) will love the sound this makes. Only complaints are that it doesn't have all the features of his 'deluxe' models (the Viper line), and the soft-shell case means you need to have care with how you carry or transport your instrument. However, for the price- couldn't ask for better!
