Captivate your audience with the unique voice and distinctive looks of the AEW series Ibanez AEW22CD.

As an industry leader in the use of Exotic tonewoods, Ibanez continues to innovate with their AEW series. This fresh approach merges a classic Spruce top with an elegant exotic tonewood back-and-sides. The exotic tonewoods give each respective model a distinctive tone and appearance that will garner attention and inspire the imagination. Let yourself be captured by the grandeur of the AEW Series.

The Ibanez AEW22CD pairs a classic Spruce soundboard with tonally and visually appealing exotic Cordia for the back and sides, all bound by rosewood. The body is also thinner, which makes the AEW22CD more amplification-friendly and less prone to the feedback typically associated with acoustic instruments--the perfect choice for gigging singer-songwriters. To cater to the elegant aesthetics of the AEW22CD, the top is adorned with a multi wood top purfling and remarkable wooden marquetry rosette that flaunts beautifully grained Cordia, spalted maple and rosewood. A "soft" Florentine cutaway facilitates easy accessibility all the way to the 17th fret. The neck is carved from mahogany and features a 20 fret rosewood fingerboard with maple dot position inlays.

When you're ready to take it to the stage, the Ibanez AEW22CD comes performance ready with a Fishman Sonicore pickup and an Ibanez AEQ-SP2 active preamp that faithfully capture the guitar's natural voice. To shape your tone to perfection, the preamp features a bass, treble and volume control. To assure that you're always in tune, the AEQ-SP2 preamp also comes loaded with a built-in, easy to read tuner. The standard 1/4" output and balanced XLR output provide you with a variety of direct plug-in applications, making the Ibanez AEW22CD adaptable for a wide range of performance situations.

The Ibanez AEW22CD sports a set of chrome die-cast tuning machines with black knobs as well as a rosewood bridge with black plastic bridge pins. Case not included.

Comments about Ibanez AEW22CD Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I needed an inexpensive guitar suitable for lo-fi, amplified, bright, finger-style work. Some of my songs required more distinct separation between the tonality of my voice and guitar.
Think of Scarborough Fair by Simon and Garfunkel as an example. The guitar sounds relatively thin but still bright and present in the mix and creates a ton of sonic space for the vocals.
I ventured over to Sam Ash in Lyndhurst OH and auditioned an Ibanez AEW22CD through a Fishman Loudbox Artist amplifier (just like mine). It projected reasonably well acoustically (shy on the bass notes though), but really came alive through the amp.
The AEW22CD is designed as a stage guitar. It broke all of my tendencies to consider a laminated top! But this one has the brightness at loud volumes without the so-called "ice-pick" highs. The laminated spruce is braced very well and is focused on the fundamentals without all the complex overtones I normally love (but which sometimes compete with vocals). I was very impressed at how quickly this guitar responds. It has a lightning-fast transient response. No latency here! This makes it ideal for getting and staying out front in any mix situation - and it's just plain fun. The treble notes are bell-like and focused, emphasizing clarity over tonal complexity, much like a solid maple-bodied guitar.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend the Ibanez AEW22CD as a primary acoustic guitar, unless you plan to play it through an amp most of the time. For overall amplified/unplugged acoustic use, I'd recommend the Martin X-Series, Taylor Academy Series or Ibanez Artwood Series guitars. But this one solves a specific problem for me and puts some of my songs back into my set list – and admittedly looks pretty good too.
BTW - added Planet Waves O-port and it really helped the bass response.
