The Gibson J-185 Guitar was first introduced in 1951. The intent was to give acoustic players an alternative to their super-jumbo guitars without sacrificing power and projection. Sporting a slightly smaller body length of 20”, 16” width, and 4 7/8” depth, the Gibson J-185 projects Jumbo power, volume, and depth. The shorter 24.75” scale allows faster, easier playability and makes the J-185 a perfect choice for players who are more accustomed to playing Gibson electric guitars. Whether playing steady 4/4 rhythm or high velocity, precision bluegrass leads, the Gibson J-185 Acoustic –Electric Guitar delivers the sound that will project and cut through any band.
Active Electronics:
The current Gibson J-185 Acoustic Electric Guitar features the L.R. Baggs Element Active Acoustic Pickup system for clean natural sounding amplification. The preamp and removable volume control are mounted inside the sound hole so they are out of the way and won’t interfere with the beauty of the guitar.
Fine Woods and Construction:

The Gibson J-185 features the precision tuning of 14:1 gear ratio nickel Grover Rotomatic Tuners. Specially lubricated for smooth operation and great stability, the Rotomatics allow you to adjust tension to your taste and are precision engineered to prevent slippage.
Neck and Fingerboard:
The Gibson J-185 fingerboard is made of the finest rosewood with rolled, beveled edges to make playing more comfortable. It includes genuine mother of pearl inlays in a striking dual parallelogram pattern and hand applied white bindings.

The tone hole is surrounded by an elegant double ring rosette with seven-ply binding for the main ring, and three-ply binding for the second ring.
