Eddie Van Halen has been experimenting and tinkering with homemade guitars and making his own personal modifications for his entire career. His original homemade creation, built over 35 years ago, known as “Frankenstein”, is now on display at the Smithsonian Museum. He has carved a hall of fame legacy with his music over the past 35 years and has proven to be one of the all-time greats. After having many signature models with various manufacturers throughout the years, Eddie has taken the reigns himself. Years of painstaking design, prototypes and rigorous road testing have culminated in the arrival of the EVH Wolfgang.
The EVH Wolfgang has been built to Eddie Van Halen’s exact specs, right down to the last detail. The EVH Wolfgang HT represents a perfect combination of traditional features and distinctive modern personal touches he prefers on his own guitars. It was his desire to share with everyone what works for him.
The Wolfgang HT starts with a core made from basswod, and capped off with an arched 5A Maple top. Multi-ply binding graces the edges of the body and the headstock, giving the Wolfgang a clean, sleek look. The electronics feature a pair of EVH designed custom humbucking pickups, and will deliver slabs of that EVH tone you are looking for. These pickups were the result of endless experimentation and road testing, and come to you with EVH’s seal of approval. Rounding out the electronics are a three-position switch; EVH custom low-friction volume (500k) and high-friction tone (250k) potentiometers.
The quartsawn AA Birdseye Maple neck is carved to the exact profile that Eddie prefers and oil-finished for a played-in, vintage feel. The 22 stainless steel fret fingerboard is shaped into a compound radius ranging from 12” to 16” which maximizes playability and facilitates effortless string bending without the annoyance of “fretting out”. The hardware features a Gotoh stop-tail bridge with fine-tuners, along with a locking Floyd Rose nut to provide tuning stability. Finally, the EVH Wolfgang comes in a protective SKB case.
