Tama Starclassic Performer B/B 4-Piece Shell SetThe distinct sounds of birch have made it a top choice amongst pro drummers and audio engineers for the last several decades. That’s all well and good, but he folks at Tama believed that it was time to take birch in a completely different direction. Tama created birch shells with inner plies of bubinga to create an altogether new sound with a sweeter and deeper tone. This combination provides the focused attack of birch along with the enhanced lows of bubinga. Each drum is constructed using this formula:
Bass drum: 3 bubinga inner plies / 5 birch outer plies
Toms: 3 bubinga inner plies / 4 birch outer plies
As with other kits in the line, the Starclassic Performer drums feature chrome hardware with Star-cast mounts, and Evans drumheads. Snare drum, hardware, and cymbals are not included. These kits are available in several beautiful lacquer finishes as well as the Duracover PX wrap finishes. A tough choice because they are all gorgeous! The sizes are:

Star-Cast Mounting System
The Star-Cast Mounting System has always provided maximum resonance and stability for Tama pro-level drums. We didn’t think it was possible but they’ve managed to improve it! The new streamlined design makes it easier to position your toms closer together for greater ease and comfort. In addition, a switch to aluminum provides lighter weight and even truer tonal vibration. Last but not least, Star-Cast is now plated to match your drums shell hardware!
Sliding Tom Holder
Performer’s completely redesigned tom-holder expands setting flexibility with a sliding connector unit that moves back and forth up to 50mm (2 inches). Simply unloosening one bolt allows you to adjust the proximity of the tom toms. Now any sized drum can be exactly positioned with ease!
Die-Cast Hoops
Hoops not only affect drum tuning, they also affect drum sound. That is why the choice of hoops was so important to Tama’s master drum builders. For the Starclassic Performer, they chose zinc die-cast hoops, which are manufactured by injecting molten metal into molds. Die-cast hoops have more density and are more consistent in shape than triple flanged hoops, which are manufactured by bending metal plates. Die-cast hoops make tuning more consistent and easier to achieve because the tension bolts always contact the hoop properly and evenly all around the drum. Drums fitted with die-cast hoops also offer crisper attack, clear and resonant highs and much more powerful rim shots.
Claw hooks
Starclassic's new claw hooks feature rubber spacers that help protect wood hoops from damage. The hooks and hoops work as one unit and won't separate or rattle, even on loose tunings.
Bass Drum Spur Bracket
The Tama MSB30 die-cast bracket holds the spur bracket securely, thanks to the same powerful hinge mechanism used on the MTB30 mounting bracket. Unique memory markers found on the folding spur bracket help simplify set up.
Air Pocket Rubber Feet
The Starclassic Air Pocket™ rubber feet on the floor tom legs feature a special air chamber, that eliminates the transfer of vibrations to the floor (which chokes sustain and sound) and absorbs shock for better floor tom feel.
Evans Heads
All Starclassic Performer drums come standard with Evans drumheads (except for the resonant bass drum head which is the stock Tama head). The rack and floor toms come with Genera G2 double ply clear batter heads, while the resonant side is fitted with Genera G1 single ply clear bottom heads. The bass drums come with Genera EQ4 clear batter heads.
