Johnny Marr was the driving force behind the Manchester quartet the Smiths, which virtually ruled U.K. pop throughout the 1980s and greatly influenced the next generation of Brit Pop. Forgoing chops in favor of melody, layering and texture, Marr carved his own inimitable style and continues to build on an already towering legacy. In his post-Smiths output, Marr has added his stylings to bands such as The The, Electronic, the Pretenders. His current projects include Johnny Marr and the Healers, Modest Mouse, the Cribs and innumerable guest appearances. For the past several years, Jonny Marr’s guitar of choice has been a Fender Jaguar. Fender has created the Johnny Marr Signature Jaguar to his exact specifications; and is now available to you.
At a glance, the Johnny Marr Jaguar appears to be a stock vintage style Jag. But some subtle, yet very effective changes have been made underneath the pickguard. The contoured alder body is outfitted with custom-wound Bare Knuckle® Johnny Marr single-coil neck and bridge pickups. The chrome plate on the lower horn which used to house 3 separate pickup switches now has a 4 position blade switch; allow you to select bridge, bridge and neck wired in parallel, neck, bridge and neck wired in series. Other features include two upper-horn slide switches; one for universal Bright and a Bright Switch for Blade Position 4.
The 24” scale maple neck is based on Marr’s 1965 Jaguar, sporting a slightly beefier profile with a vintage-style truss rod, lacquer finish and Marr’s signature on the front of the headstock. Hardware includes a Vintage style Jaguar bridge modified with Mustang® saddles, nylon bridge post inserts for improved stability, chrome cover and vintage-style floating tremolo tailpiece.
Accessories include a custom hardshell case with blue crushed velvet interior, strap, cable and flatwound strings. Available in Olympic White and Metallic KO (a distinctive orange tint derived from the heavily faded Candy Apple Red finish of one of Marr’s favorite ’60s-era Fender models).
