Gibson Custom Dickey Betts SG VOS Electric Guitar with Hardshell Case

During the early days of the Allman Brothers Band, Dickey Betts’s primary guitar of choice was a Gibson SG. This SG was used on the legendary early recordings and live shows by the Allman Brothers Band. Along with his partner Duane Allman, Betts helped create some of the most memorable guitar recordings in rock & roll history. Dickey Betts’s SG was eventually gifted to Duane Allman. The reason was that Duane was playing a lot of slide guitar and required retuning every time, so the guitar was employed by Duane as a means to save time between songs during shows. Gibson has faithfully recreated his trusty guitar that was passed “From One Brother to Another” down to the last detail.

Made of traditional solid mahogany, the body of the “One Brother to Another” SG is typical of the thin SG bodies from the mid 1960’s, complete with traditional beveled edges and the distinct dual sharp cutaway horns that give players complete access to the guitar’s full 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. The body is then finished in Aged Vintage Red, and historically accurate right down to the tiniest scratches, dings and belt rash. Even the screw holes on the body where a Lyre Vibrola Tailpiece once sat have been recreated.

The guitar’s quarter-sawn mahogany neck is carved in a slim but rounded profile and is glued into the body with Gibson’s deep set-neck joint and topped with a Grade-A rosewood fingerboard with 22 banjo frets and vintage cream binding.

To maintain the accuracy in reproducing this iconic guitar, Gibson has outfitted the Dickey Betts “From One Brother To Another” SG with a pair of Custom Buckers with aged nickel covers, wound and constructed to precise PAF specs, with rare Alnico III magnets and slightly mismatched and unpotted coils, two of the secrets to the articulate and slightly edgy tone for which great PAF and Patent No. pickups are famous.
