The HAMMERAX Indigo® 21" FlatRide Cymbal is a shallow ride cymbal with small “microcups” in the center that give an airy bell tone and other sounds along with an exotic ride cymbal groove. A totally hand-hammered musical work of art!
The HAMMERAX Indigo® 21” Flatride Cymbal is part of a family of cymbals described as dark, lush and rich. The Indigo Flatrides feature numerous “micro-cups” hammered into the center area of the cymbal that impart several qualities: they increase the richness of the cymbal providing excellent stick definition. The micro-cups also are “rake-able”, allowing various effects including a one-handed roll effect.
The Flatrides have a beautiful dark stick response with no dead spot in the center, which is common in other flat ride cymbals. The innovation of micro-cups eliminates the dead spot and allows for a broader range of dynamics and tones. The 21” Flatride has a big, bright and rich sound with plenty of good stick definition.
After initial casting and rolling, HAMMERAX Indigo metal is shaped and forged totally by hammering and will stand out visually as much as for its distinctive sound. The innovative hammering process, very careful heat treatment and a unique alloy results in great tonal beauty.
The Indigo® 21” Flatride Cymbal and other percussion effects made by Hammerax have become popular and widely-used by drummers and percussionists as additional sounds and textures used to create a unique and exotic ride cymbal groove, to accent musical arrangements and to add new sounds to the drummer’s and percussionist’s toolkit. After years building musical instruments and founding Om Percussion, well known for their bar chimes, in 1993 John Stannard began hammering bronze. On the island of Bali he studied forging in the fire pits. The education was more spiritual than intellectual.
